Why do so few people play backgammon?

It’s such a profound game. Why doesn’t it have the status of chess?

It uses too much math for most people.

The equipment required to play isn’t as common as, say a deck of playing cards. Many people have never had the oppurtunity to play.

I don’t know how to play

I agree with Geist. It takes actual thought and isn’t like Tic-Tac-Toe or hangman, something that’s “anyman’s game” but requires a strategy and a thoughtful processing of movements. Most people don’t like thinking ahead unless its where to eat or what Mall to go to.

because more people play chess….so there more people to play with if you play chess.

  10. Kitten says:

the rules are too complicated and it’s outdated.

It was very popular in the Seventies, wasn’t it? They had backgammon tournaments everywhere. It had it’s moment… but it will probably have it’s moment again when a new generation “discovers” it.
